InterGrain is proud to announce the release of Granite CL, a new quick-mid maturing Clearfield® feed barley variety, with a broad adaption across Australian grain growing regions. Launched at the Corrigin Spring Field Day on 17 September by InterGrain Barley Breeder David Moody, Granite CL is set to forge new ground for barley growers seeking a high yielding, rock-solid Clearfield barley.
Trialled as IGB21092T, Granite CL has demonstrated exceptional yield potential, outperforming Rosalind by an average of 6% in InterGrain’s national long-term trials (2019-2023) across all environments.
Granite CL boasts a robust disease resistance package, including excellent resistance to net form net blotch, spot form net blotch, and resistance to CCN. With an erect growth habit and medium plant height, similar to Rosalind and Maximus CL, the variety offers strong lodging tolerance and low head loss risk.
David Moody highlights the significance of this new release, “Granite CL is a resilient, high-performing variety that we are excited to introduce to growers. Its combination of superior yield potential, excellent disease resistance and very good test weight, combined with the Clearfield trait, positions it as a leading feed barley option.”
“Granite CL not only provides growers with a Clearfield alternative to Rosalind, but also offers growers a barley variety with significant yield improvements, greatly improved resistance to SFNB, and a low risk of lodging and head loss, which are critical factors for maintaining yield potential,” Moody added.
Granite CL will be available for planting through local resellers and Seedclub Members in Western Australia for the upcoming season and will be available in SA, Victoria, NSW and QLD in 2026.
Granite CL is an InterGrain variety containing the Imidazolinone tolerance barley trait technology licensed from Agriculture Victoria Services (AVS) and was bred by David Moody and the InterGrain Barley Breeding team.
