Position Overview:
As a Quantitative Geneticist, you will play a pivotal role in developing methods and tools for genotypic and phenotypic information during breeding, as well as conducting biostatistical data analyses. Your expertise in genomic selection will be crucial in advancing our client’s breeding programs, translating complex research into actionable insights with commercial viability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with multi-species plant breeders and breeding programs to enhance product development targets.
- Lead a small team focused on data analytics and management for all breeding initiatives.
- Drive engagement with collaborative research partnerships aimed at optimizing genomic platforms and associated projects.
- Oversee the management and curation of extensive datasets to enhance data accessibility and usability.
- Implement statistical modelling within a linear mixed model framework for large multi-environment phenotype data.
- Conduct efficient analysis of large molecular marker datasets to inform strategic introgression and training population optimization.
- Customize and validate models for selection and cross-prediction, exploring various approaches at the haplotype and whole-genome level.
- Lead research projects within the scientific community to develop novel techniques and tools for integrated genomic breeding.
- Supervise, develop, and provide guidance to direct reports, including the Biometrician and Data Manager.
Essential Criteria:
- PhD in Quantitative Genetics, Plant Breeding and Genetics, Biometrics, or related fields.
- Proven ability to communicate and collaborate effectively in multi-disciplinary teams.
- Experience in leading or mentoring teams to achieve goals and deadlines.
- Knowledge and experience in commercial plant breeding is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in theoretical and applied quantitative genetics, including genomic selection.
- Expertise in manipulating and managing large molecular marker datasets.
- Proficiency in statistical modelling within a linear mixed model framework using tools such as ASReml, SAS, S+/R, Python, etc.
- Strong computational skills and ability to document and discuss results effectively.
Opportunity Highlights:
- Full Time, permanent employment with competitive salary range
- Salary range: $120,000 – $145,000 per annum, plus superannuation.
- Eligibility for a profit share bonus scheme.
- While a Perth location is preferred, remote work within Australia is possible for qualified candidates.
- Full working rights are preferred, but international sponsorship and relocation allowance are available for exceptional candidates.
