InterGrain Wheat Varieties
Currently, InterGrain markets over 25 wheat varieties in Western Australia and 4 varieties in south eastern Australia. During the 2006/07 season the program released the premium Udon noodle variety Binnu and in 2007/08 released a further Udon noodle variety Yandanooka and an APW variety Magenta. In 2008/09, InterGrain released four wheat varieties with a diverse range of characteristics enabling growers to have better choice in matching variety selection to growing conditions and different end markets. “Fortune” a premium quality noodle wheat bred to replace Calingiri has excellent yields and superior udon quality. “Zippy” is a very short season APW suitable for late sowing with good grain quality allowing varied planting times to manage frost and seasonal conditions or clean up paddocks for weeds. “Endure” is a triple rust resistant APW for April planting to maximise use of stored summer rainfall or an early break, and is the only commercial variety available of this maturity.
