Herbicide Resistance
- Clearfield
Resistance to the Imidazolinone herbicides, traded under the registered name of Clearfield, is incorporated into a range of material across all five breeding programs, using two genes conferring resistance. One of the genes is the property of BASF and is used under licence. The other gene, is protected by patents and available only to InterGrain within Australia. It complements the BASF gene and confers a higher level of resistance to the herbicide than is attained with the single BASF gene. InterGrain varieties, with Clearfield resistance, are the only wheat varieties within Australia that carry both genes.
- New Varieties are monitored for tolerance to herbicides routinely applied to wheat
